Need Dessert ideas for Thanksgiving?

Let's go Southern!

This recipe is a favorite of my cousin Ken. I've seen various recipes here and there.  This one is from his Mom's family I think.  I've grown to like it more and more.  I especially like to watch people's faces when I tell them what it is.  Try cooking and serving this without stating the name of it.  If you like custards at all, you'll love this.

Butter Milk Custard Pie
(Makes 1 Pie)

1 ½  cups sugar
3 eggs
¼ cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ cup butter melted (1 stick of butter)
1 Deep dish pie shell (unbaked)

Blend sugar, flour, and eggs.  Mix in butter.  Next add buttermilk.  Last mix in vanilla. (do not beat too much, you want the buttermilk lumpy).  Pour into the pie shell.

Bake at 300 degree for 1 hour.

Its very important leave the temperature alone.  Do not try to raise the temperature to cook faster. This will only make it burn on top and be soft underneath - like buttermilk soup.

Don't be scared - give it a try.....
