So easy an Admin can do it
I created my first Composite Application yesterday! My colleague and CA blogger Craig Wolpert asked me to help test the CA tutorial with the newest Notes 8 Beta code, so he can use it at Developer2007 in the labs.
I'm thinking the theory was that if an admin could do it, anybody could. Well, except for the fact that they changed some of the LotusScript stuff from the current Beta to the next Beta, it worked, and I'm the proud owner of a Domino-based Composite App. It didn't hurt my head much at all, except for the part where the LotusScript barked at me after I carefully copied and pasted it (my foolproof development method). I had to call in Jo Grant, who is himself a CA blogger and ace developer. The ST conversation went something like this:
Me: Hey - this thing is throwing a LotusScript error
Jo: Oh - that's because they changed algretian obfuscation and drillberts in the latest beta (that's my understanding of what Jo actually said)
Me: Ok
Jo: You just have to not pass that argument
Me: I'm not arguing with you - it's broken. Please speak English. Or Spanish or German.
Jo:
Me: Paste
Jo: (14 seconds later) Paste - there, its fixed
And it was - and I pasted it and my CA actually worked!
I spiffed up the lab document with new screen shots and Jo's code and sent it back to Craig for grading. We should have it all ready for you at the conference. Our labs start on Tuesday, and there will be a bunch of them - including a Bug Hunt (I can't wait - I'm packing my flyswatter, and the Blog Monkey eats bugs), Leveraging Web Services in ST, Forms and Ajax, Quickr Demo and lots more.
I'll be busy speaking on Admin topics - I have multiple sessions as well as Ask the Geek and a BOF, but I'm going to stop by and see my co-workers and maybe have a brew with them after work hours. If you're at all inclined, stop by the labs and see how really easy it is to make a CA. As far as AJAX and plug-ins and stuff - well I'm getting a headache just typing it, but for the Developers, its a dynamite set of Labs that our friends at the View are offering up for you.
